A Family place
Submitted by Deb, Western suburbs of Chicago
My grandparents, parents, brother, aunts, uncles and cousins and I were members of Holy Trinity for many, many years. We celebrated Baptisms, Weddings, 50th Anniversaries and Funerals there where we were always comforted by the services, prayers and the remarkable spiritual feeling that you get when you walk through the doors of Holy Trinity Cathedral. The members of Holy Trinity became my extended family and when our paths cross we always enjoying bringing up memories of days gone by. The building is beautiful inside and out and is deserving of preservation along with all of the memories that it holds for so many people.

My Church
Submitted by Pat, California
I was baptized and married in Holy Trinity Cathedral. With its Cathedral status it deserves to be preserved. There is so much history within its walls. The icons are priceless works of art that cannot be duplicated today. All the history of the Cathedral needs to be saved. It once housed a holy icon that was saved from Russia during the war and we were lucky enough to have had it for many years....

Form Follows Faith
Submitted by Steve, Chicago
One can't help but feel the hand of God and the genius of Sullivan at work when you walk inside Holy Trinity Orthodox Cathedral. If you haven't been, you must visit. It's an international religious and architectural treasure -- and we need to preserve it for generations to come!

Please help restore the Cathedral to it's former beauty.
Submitted by beth, Eastern Orthodox
I recently drove by the Cathedral on a visit to the Ukranian Village this summer and was shocked to see the exterior's condition. One can visibly see the multiple cracks in the stucco and an obvious need for structural repairs. As a parishioner who has attended services there, I can only reiterate how important it is to save this beautiful and sacred building. By doing so, we are preserving not only an important Chicago landmark, but also that of the Orthodox church and Russian-American/immigrant history. I pray that the Cathedral will receive the financial support it so desperately needs.

Holy Trinity
Submitted by jkaletta, City of Chicago
My wife and I moved into the neighborhood 5 years ago. We rehabbed a two flat on Hoyne and preserved the facade of the building, restored the decorative cornice and now call Ukrainian village home.
The area retains its vitality because of the restoration of the structures that have existed here since the late 19th century. Without Holy Trinity the neighborhood loses a spiritual and architectural anchor that was important to its growth as an ethnically rich neighborhood in the last century.
My wife and I were attracted by the architecture here but have come to appreciate that many Russian families still live and worship here, which makes it an even more worthwhile place to live.

Holy Trinity
Submitted by Ksenia, Chicago
I live next door and it is a very nice church. It is one of the last Louis Sullivan Churches, and I believe that makes it special. Frank Lloyd Wright has many buildings that still exist, but this is one of the few around for Sullivan. It is very spiritual and it makes it a place to get away from the world outside. I love this church and I think that many other people should vote for it because this church has faith and that's what we have very little of now in the world. We should try our best to preserve it.

My home church
Submitted by Alex Z, Chicago
God found me a bit more than three years ago, and since then my life has been getting better and better. Holy Trinity Cathedral and the people who serve and worship there have given me so much that I can't even express it in words. What I KNOW is they are doing the RIGHT thing, and that with them I feel blessed and needed. The Church building itself is more than a 100 years old and needs to be maintained so that people can come there and receive God's blessings with a light heart. I love the atmosphere of the cathedral, and I feel the presence of the Higher Power every time I cross the threshold of the building. I very much want it to be preserved personally for my children and for the future generations of Christians.

This is what is meant by
Submitted by ElizabethBennet, Chicago
This structure is stunning. It just perfectly is what it is -- orthodox aesthetics and architectural tradition on a limited scale smack in the middle of an urban center. Surely this embodies Sullivan's skill. If for no other reason, this needs preservation because it is dazzling memorial of Chicago's own Louis Sullivan.

Please preserve this beautiful cthedral
Submitted by Tatiana, Milwaukee, WI
My husband and I visit Chicago often, and we've been to the Holy Trinity Cathedral several times. Please preserve this beautiful piece of spirituality, architecture and art. The Orthodox Church in America is small and poor - they will never come up with the funds to maintain it.

A little bit of heaven...
Submitted by Katja, Chicago
I wandered into Holy Trinity one day back in 2001, and I was completely blown away. I came there on a Sunday morning for a service, and as I've always said, it felt entirely like stepping outside of time. It was almost like sensory overload - the gorgeous interior, the incense, the gorgeous singing, the bells. In time, I even became Orthodox, and have become quite involved with this church, and besides wanting people to come and share in this experience, it would be so nice to have the funding to get done some of the repairs which really need to be done. It would be so sad to lose this church because there aren't enough people around who care to take care of it.

Bright eyes
Submitted by Joseph, Chicago
Windows are the 'eyes' of any building. Now, our beautiful Cathedral, the last example of Louis Sullivan's religious architecture, has 'black eyes.' We need to fix the windows to once again show the genius of Sullivan, and appreciate the beauty of God.

God bless America!
Submitted by Maria, Chicago
Being born in an atheistic society, I came to this country and began attending Holy Trinity Orthodox Cathedral. This is my spiritual home: I worship here, my children were baptized here, several members of my family were buried here. In my heart, this is the premiere cathedral in the country, and we need to beautify her, and care for her so that she may continue serving God. God bless America!

Form follows function
Submitted by John, Chicago
Form follows function' is one of the guiding principles set forth by Louis Sullivan. The synthesis he achieved following not only the traditional canons of Orthodox architecture, but also being true to his own vision of architecture is simply awe inspiring.

Divine Artistry
Submitted by Dr. Peter, Chicago
Holy Trinity Cathedral is where I truly met God. Louis Sullivan's artistry is exceptional, and deserves preservation. The spiritual beauty and message of the Cathedral is particularly expressed in its architectural beauty. Help us preserve it!
